Lions Cancer Institute received $10,000 Centenary Grant

By Association Life

Lions Cancer Institute received $10,000 Centenary Grant in support from Commonwealth Bank West Perth branch on 18 May 2018:

In celebration of a 100-year legacy of giving, Commonwealth Bank employees are giving $10 million to community organisations, with 1,000 Centenary Grants valued at $10,000 being distributed.
The Lions Cancer Institute is pictured receiving a Centenary Grant, with CommBank West Perth branch and employees having nominated it in recognition of the much needed services it provides to the local community.
Commonwealth Bank donated $10 million to the CommBank Foundation in celebration and recognition of 100 years of employee giving and this donation funded the Centenary Grants. More than 13,000 current and retired bank employees donate a portion of their income to the program, with Commonwealth Bank contributing up to $2m each year as well.

The inspiring and far reaching impact of the work undertaken by the Lions Cancer Institute was a crucial factor in it receiving the grant.
“We’re thrilled to be able to support organisations like the Lions Cancer Institute in the important work they do for our local community,” says Commonwealth Bank West Perth branch manager, Peter Plowman when presenting the cheque to Lions Cancer Institute Chairman, Lion Phil Chinnery.
Thanking Peter for the grant, Chairman Phil said the Lions Cancer Institute was very grateful for the support from the Commonwealth Bank Foundation, which will be used to maintain our Mobile Skin Cancer Screening activities throughout WA.
The attached picture of the presentation shows LCI Public Relations Director PDG Garry Irvine, Chairman Phil Chinnery, CBA West Perth Branch Manager Peter Plowman, LCI Treasurer PDG Neil Saunders and LCI Acting Secretary Lion Dot Saunders.

2017-2018 Lions Cancer Institute Annual Report

The Lions Cancer Institute held its Annual General Meeting in October 2018 at the Royal Aero Club at Jandakot Airport.

There was quite good representation from Lions Clubs of both Districts, and we were pleased to have as special guests our PhD student, Tracey Seymour, and our new Patron Professor George Yeoh (both pictured) join us.

The business session went well and ,included reports from Chairman Lion Phil Chinnery, Treasurer PDG Neil Saunders, M D Screening Project Liaison Manager PDG Colin Beauchamp and Screening Operations Coordinator Lion John Osborne.

PhD student Tracey provided a presentation on the outcomes of the research she has just completed on finding new therapies to improve treatment of the most common, and fatal type of brain tumour, glioblastoma.

At the completion of the business session, Lion June Walker, a Director and one of our screeners, provided some humour to finish the evening by telling a story about how cold it was at night during a recent screening event at Tambellup. Apparently Colin and John suffered through the early hours on a frosty night, even using towels and every piece of spare clothing they had to try and stay warm. Real “brass monkey” weather!

Thanks to all that attended, and to June and the Jandakot Lakes Lions Club for providing the supper, and the Royal Aero Club for use of the meeting facilities.
